educational institutions Chronicle Society of India helps Orissa THE super cyclone
rendered thousands homeless in the coastal districts of Orissa. Almost all small scale
industries, cottage industries, artisans and educational institutions have been razed by
the furious waves. Hundreds of national and international agencies extended a helping hand
to bring back normal life of the stricken people. All major media organisations suffered a
severe loss of their properties like printing presses, computers and other accessories.
Chronicle Society of India (CSI), a Delhi based Non-Government Organisation realising the
enormity of the loss, donated a computer to the premier Oriya weekly Rashtradeep to revive
it after the killer storm had destroyed their DTP unit.
Recently Rashtradeep organised a function at its office in Cuttack where Shri Seshadri Chari, President of Chronicle Society of India donated a computer to Shri Jagabandhu Mishra, Editor of the Oriya weekly. The Society also donated polythene sheets to Rashtradeep and all its members who were victims of the super cyclone. Speaking on the occasion Shri Chari, himself Editor of weekly Organiser, assured the Oriya weekly of more help in future to rebuild the Rashtradeep building and also some accessories. "This is an initial gesture by the society which will continue to help the Oriya weekly from time to time, Shri Chari added. Eminent Oriya journalist Shri Arun Panda exhorted the Oriya weekly to continue to write against corruption, injustice and pursue social causes as per its tradition although it will have sympathetic attitude towards the newly formed alliance government in the State. Rashtradeep Editor Jagabandhu Mishra welcomed the distinguished guests. Among others Dr Shyam Sunder Mishra of Vidya Bharati, Dr Basant Kumar Rath, State Secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), S/Shri Gopinath Sahoo from ABVP, Sarat Sahoo from Seva Bharati, Pramod Mohapatra, Sub-Editor, Samaj, Achyutananda Samanta, Secretary, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bibhuti Bhusan Das, Vinay Bhusan Bhuyan and Narayan Sarangi were present at the function.
